Spur of the Moment

La Push
Sea Lions at Depot Bay

We surprised the kids with a spur of the moment trip to the coast! They loved it and surprisingly we had a great time. We were only there for not even 24 hours but we had such a great time! We stayed in a hotel, which we didn't get to until 8pm because we decided so late that we were going to go. We all slept like crap but were wide awake the next morning at 7:30. We went and ate the free continental breakfast, checked out of the hotel, and then began our adventure. We played on the beach at Lincoln city for an hour or two. Then we drove to Depot Bay and saw the whales! It was pretty awesome! The kids begged to go on a boat out into the ocean, but me being me, doesn't like the ocean out there and so we casually side stepped that part of the trip. But there's an observatory that has a camera wayyyy telephoted out and you could see all the spouts shooting. It was great! We saw sea lions, pigeons and all sorts of stuff. The kids each got to pick out a shirt and then we were on our way after a 2 hour or so stay in Depot Bay. We headed back to Lincoln City and ate the best Chinese food I've ever eaten I think. YUMMY!! We decided we weren't ready to head home so we went up to Tillamook and ate cheese and Ice Cream! Spencer slept through most of that, but woke up just in time to steal my ice cream cone from me! That's ok though! After an hour or so there we decided we would go and search for "La Push" beach where "Twilight" was filmed. We found it in Cannon Beach at Ecola State Park. It was awesome up there. Absolutely breathtaking views and lots of cool things running around. We got out of the car I looked over and there are 7 elk standing there. Amazing! We saw a bald eagle flying around also. We went and did all of our looking and when we came back there were 15 elk just hanging out by the parking lot. The kids all thought tha was awesome. Well we all did. We haven't been that close to that stuff before! It was a great trip. Little S loved the ocean and wanted to throw rocks into the water. We did pretty well at keeping everyone dry until our last stop! We had a great time and hope to do it again soon!!

What a great trip! We haven't done a spontaneous trip like that in a long time. I didn't realize La Push beach was so close. Now I want to go check it out!
